Do a location recce in as much detail as you can, although it is not always possible. A location recce is an important part of the video production research. Take a cameraman on recces with you if possible.
- Look around the location
- Talk to people there
- Check the position of sun
- Work out possible sequences
- Look out for interesting shots, particularly those which show things changing or 'say it all'
- Check the electricity supply and for high-power hazards for sound or video
- Check for noise problems both obvious and hidden
- Double-check shooting permissions
- Check contacts are clear about shooting times and dates . Check calendar, tide tables for possible shooting snags .
- Check crew feeding and toilet arrangements. Arrange car parking.
- Are walkie-talkies or special equipment for cameras or crew needed?
- Take photographs which might help studio-based technicians.
- Look for publicity photographs. If you think of any, make a note to arrange for a photographer to come on shooting day.
- Can you give clear 'how to get there' instructions?
- Take a lightweight sound recorder, perhaps even a lightweight camera to check background noise or gather interview material
